If I was a Newb!

When I first became a member of SS.C , I was starving for information.I found by reading everything that had been written,  by everyone  on the site,  from day one , to be the education of a life time.I don't believe it has ever been mentioned that when you first click on Rubber Side Down ,on the left side of the page near the top the pages numbers are listed ,an appear like this 1 2 3...833 (currently).By clicking on the periods between the numbers will pop up a box listing all the pages and by progressing backward through the numbers you can read them all,and know more about your bike than 99.9% of Suzuki dealers.

If you don't ever feel safe about performing that work yourself, you'll still have a very good idea of what the problem is and what needs to be done to fix it.

That's great advice Dave. I've read many, many threads on this site in my time here. It's really interesting to note how many times a person starts troubleshooting a weird sound, thinking it's something in particular, only to be led by others to discover it's something totally different.

And that's not only in relation to known issues, but as a general attitude to troubleshooting.

Not long ago I was concerned about a new high-pitched rattle that my bike made when under load. It stopped when I pulled the clutch. I initially feared a problem with the crankcase. And was imaging the worst I remembered how many times a member here has asked "what have you changed  recently, before the problem started?"

I had installed bar-end mirrors. It turned out the glass was loose in one of them! That was the rattle lol  Cool

Well it's been 3 years you all have endured me being here , sometimes a little hostile and always a smarta$$. I have learned how to behave online somewhat ! I find it very strange that I only act that way here , never on the other forums I use. I think it's because this forum is kinda like sittin around with old friends rather than strangers. The mix of so many different backgrounds & talents and everyone's willingness to help and not let you fail is very genuine ! A huge Thanks to all !

@BM, "...by clicking on the periods..."

I did not know that. thx.

btw, I'm waiting for a wireless endoscope/boroscope to arrive in my quest for easing the pain of checking the valve clearances.

I was hoping a moderator might stick it under the "Things every Savage newb should know'' heading, but I thought more members would see it here first.

EDS, I'm wondering how your going to use the scope to help set valve clearance???? I don't see how looking at wrong end of the valves will help, they're recessed into the head (where the valve closes on the seat) which you might not be able to see.

Still considering myself a noob...
Spending about an hour and a half reading old threads with my pot of coffee has become a staple of my morning ritual.

From joining up a short time ago to ask for expertise diagnosing my motor troubles... to diving in and building it into a monster, thanks to the experience on tap provided by this enthusiast community.

One of the skills ya learn on this site is, how to ask a good question!  Grin

Yes a properly prepared question will get you answers fast. If we have a hard time discerning your questions it makes it hard to give a timely answer.

The question isn't so much the problem , as the amount of information given to help find the answer, we aren't there and can't see the bike!

Most people assume that one stock bike is just like another and you don't have to describe anything beyond the problem.
Yet if they had provided a picture... there's your problem right there.
