I spent all weekend pulling unused shipping containers from a storage facility that rents them and preparing them for transit to port-of-call for use in Puerto Rico. I estimate about 200 people will be involved in the transport/loading and distribution chain of this weekends effort alone, all of it voluntary.

Well, an eclipse and a hurricane are a little different affair, don't you think? But this is actually my point. If it's not a threat to the US, then not many people care - even though the DR is so close and so well traveled by Americans.
