Ordered a Lithium Iron battery
07/01/17 at 06:27:33
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SA63VC0/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8...
I got this Battery Tender Lithium Iron Phosphate 12V 14AH Battery ordered for the s40 and was wondering if anyone here has any experience with these batteries or other similar different brand lithium iron batteries?
Any issues with maintaining or charging either by the bikes charging system or external charger.
I use a 12V 1.2A Power Wheels charger that came with my kids Power Wheels Jeep as my trickle charger battery maintainer on my lead acid batteries if needed and I am not sure if a special charger is needed or if any charger will be necessary.
I have been wanting to try a battery of this type to try on one of my other bikes but was not in need of a new battery and did not want to spend the cash on something not really necessary.
I will most probably be removing the airbox and battery box and I am not sure yet where items will be relocated.
This image is my inspiration,

I don't know much about lithium ion batteries except that they are very light and compact.
The image of the s40 is absolutely marvelous. Who built it. What a job.

Do NOT use lead-acid chargers which employ a high-voltage “antisulfation” routine.
Which is about any automatic battery charger.

Who figures this stuff Out?
Lithium iron phosphate battery
The lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4) battery, also called LFP battery (with "LFP" standing for "lithium ferrophosphate"), is a type of rechargeable battery, specifically a lithium-ion battery, which uses LiFePO 4 as a cathode material.

The person is a member here but has not been active for more than a year.
He posted this thread that has all of his renderings a couple of years ago.

I really like it a lot because it could be done for not that much money unlike a Ryca kit. It uses a lot more of the stock parts than a Ryca yet looks very stylish. I like the overall look better.

I used a Battery Tender Lithium battery in a Thruxton build a few years ago.
Flawless.
As noted, the chargers with a 'desulfate' cycle will blow up those batteries.
If you have an early Battery Tender charger, it may not have a high enough maintenance voltage to keep a Lithium happy.
Suzuki used to love crazy high charging voltage. In the 70's and early 80's the bikes ran 15.5 volts at full chat.
Voltage that high with cause many Lithium batteries to explode.
So, throw a meter on your bike and rev it up. See what the max charging rate is.
Figure out if you have the right battery charger.
Those batteries also hate a parasitic load. If the battery goes completely flat, it is hard to bring back.
So, put your meter on DC amps, and put it in series with the ground lead to the battery.
With the key off!
See if there is any drain. If so, fix it.
Have Lithium batteries in all my bikes. Will never buy another boat anchor battery.

Be careful that any Gel, lithium battery will fit easily into your stock battery box.

I've been using a lithium battery in my Cabbage and my Enfield for 4 years, no problem at all. Way smaller and lighter than stock. No charging problems. The ones I use have charge and balancing circuitry built in. As should all moto lithiums by now.

I put an AntiGravity Lithium battery in my bike this year and it's been great so far. I use a Battery Tender Jr. LITHIUM charger, but you really only need it when something bad happens. I left the key on once and the charger did fine.
Make sure you treat it right and you'll be a happy camper.

Thanks Armen, all good info.
I will check the regulator output and get a MOSFET regulator if necessary.
I put a Shindengen one on my Guzzi.

So if I toss in a smaller LIB I just need to make a new bracket, insulate it and make sure I have long enough wires?
Nothing else special goes along with this? I'd like to turn my battery box into storage.
