Why drag it out?
Two points.
1) Who are you to say a government agency gets to make that decision?
2) The government agencies decision is driven by cost.
Because Britain had a national health care system, accountants are in charge of deciding life/death based on the balance sheet.
Maybe you missed my point.
Rational adults, the people Responsible for the decision
Should Be the parents.
When the Responsibility FOR the decision lands on the backs of the People, it's the duty of the People's Representatives to decide.
The Responsibility FOR the decisions, that's the people who are held to account, as in, required to Pay for the decision, should be limited to the people Responsible for the child.
Period.
And for anyone to demand life sustaining heroic efforts to keep someone breathing once the examinations have been done and the doctors agree that this baby will never see, hear, move, eat, and will require constant vigilance just to keep the pulse and expect Others to Pay for it is just baffling. The only ones who have that right are the people who Pay for it.
The parents should have been allowed to take THEIR baby home, where they could hold him, together, and grieve the loss, and let that poor baby expire in their arms.
I should be more empathetic.
