Thumper - SWM Gran Turismo

A US importer is bringing in some SWM models. Mostly off road and DS models based on the Husqvarnas that use to be built in Italy.
SWM has a classic line also (that likely won't make it to the US).

Looks to be a little lighter than ours. That looks like the exhaust may have catalytic converters, and might be stainless steel. The exhaust system Looks Designed well. Who knows?
Looka that headlight. I'm digging that, too.

Thanks for posting the picture. I love the look of it. I've read that these are being made in Italy and I have always liked Italian bikes.
I found the the site for the SWM Gran Turismo. The bike is only about 330 lbs with a 445cc single engine developing about 29 hp. Nice size and decent power, it could be a lot of fun.

Whenever I see two skinny pipes I think......it's a twin. Dual exhaust ports and pipes always fools me.
Not a bad looking bike in an angular sort or way....the tank looks like my Ninja Cafe' with the Tupperwear removed.

Yes, it is too bad that they didn't use a classically styled tank, say something along the lines of a Triumph. Also, on a new bike many people now expect ABS and traction control but there is no mention of that.

I think they will be made in China, we can get the Silver Vase and some other road models in New Zealand, in Auckland they are being handled by the Royal Enfield distributor.

An Italian motorcycle made in China?
I bought a wrench from Harbor freight that fits the nut on the trailer hitch ball. It was affordable and big enough I figured I wouldn't break it. I though it was a bit funny that the wrench was made in India - but it is labeled "PITTSBURGH".

Rumour has it, that after world war two, the Japanese built a town called USA so they could make things that were made in USA.

There is a town named Usa and founded in 1967 in Japan. They never tried to export goods labeled "made in USA" though. That's a good old urban legend.
I would be interested in a SWM thumper if made available locally.

Not sure if the classic line is made in Italy, might be a bunch of parts made in China, but the classic line would be the perfect platform for any brat, cafe, tracker or scrambler project. Or just a cool little bike to ride as is.
I doubt we'll see them in the USA. The distributor has a history if importing boutique off road motorcycles like Cagiva, TM, etc. His interest in probably in the Husky incarnations.

HD initially had the pegs lower, but they leaked oil mounted down low.
