My job requires I adhere to 100 percent of the build of an airplane.
I have to drill holes within 1000 of an inch tolerance of diameter and angularity.
I, on my own, have to measure each hole for conformance.
If out of spec, I have to rat myself out, and initiate a non-conforming request to "fix it".
The report itself cost in the thousands, the repair, can be 100 fold.
Too many of these and I have no job.
Cover it up, and the flying public will only know if a team of experts can piece the cause of the crash back to my, uh, lack of integrity.
I demand it of myself, I rely on hope, that others do....
