I have a 2014 S40 that is completely stock. I've read on these pages that many folks replace the stock muffler with a Dyna, but I'm not sure which one I should get. At this early point in my riding career I don't want something complicated that will require new jets, mojo work, etc. I'd just like to bring out the sound of my Thumper a bit more and compete a little bit with my son's Intruder

Advice or dissuasion is appreciated.

I prefer to use an angle adapter, like the one RYCA sells.  It makes the job easier and you only need to bolt things on, no cutting required.  The RYCA clamp is a bit wimpy, and if you buy the Harley DYNA clamps they are better - but you do have to cut a soda or beer can into a shim to put under the clamp so it will tighten up completely.

Superthumper also sells a kit that already has a muffler and an adapter.  You have to cut about 1" off the header pipe to allow the adapter to fit.

Even without a muffler swap - most of these bikes run a bit lean and rejetting is most likely needed....only the folks at higher elevations have bikes that aren't too lean with the factory jetting.  Be aware that with the muffler change, you will get more pops and backfires out the exhaust, and you will have to learn how to use your left hand o the throttle to reduce the noise.  Don't let the throttle close completely when shifting gears - or when slowing down using compression braking.....just a tiny bit of throttle will reduce the noise considerably.

The soup can method is workable, and it is definitely the cheapest way to get a DYNA on your bike.....and it is creative.

The angle adapter is more expensive and does push the muffler a bit farther back - but it is also easier to make it work without leaks.
