bought new savage $350 not running

Hey guys.....had a savage years back.....so called went up in bike size....now own a yamaha vstar 1300 ...fully loaded....ect ect.... Any way i bought a used 1987 savage ....not running $350.... Loved thes bikes....gonna Bob it..... Any way.....guy said it died in his driveway and backfired.......now as ya turn it over with startef it sounds like a bag of rocks in motor......im thinking timing chain come loose.......but have never tore into a bike......any suggestions where to start before i start.........gonna pull cvers tomorrow and have a look........but if any good ideas are always helpful......thanx guys

Give as more data! how long it was sitting after the fact? how mane miles on it? is it got laid went it cut of on the highway? other words more info!

1987 ....8100 miles.... I pulled timing side cover.....all in good shape.....pulled started next.....BINGO......teeth missing...... Pulled starter from buddys bike......installed ran fair.....so time to clean up and tune up and bob my $350 bike out good........i bought 2 in last cpl weeks......one for $250 sold to my buddy for $350......then found this one for $350 ......we gonna bob them togethef and have a good time doing.......reading on this forum we been learning lots so far.....and plan on keeping on learning from you guys in here........ill post pics as we bob away

Oh yes...gonna do that....jus put covers back on to trst start it ......gonna pull covers back off and do some good clean up .....outside and inside motor.......i have a bigver bike to ride...this will be jus a sweet bobber project......so gonna go slow and corrs t on thimgs......thanx guys....

Hey Ronny, I was going after that bike on Friday. When I called the guy said I just missed it. It looked nice in the pictures. Almost the same mileage on my '01 when I got it in 2009.

Yea....been lucky .....this makes 2 i bought in last cpl weeks....first was for 250 ...1986 12k miles.....then this one 1987 with 8 k miles......sold first to a buddy for 350 so he would have a bike to bob....and ill have this one......so BUDDY BOBBERS

Well....if you start a BUDDY BOBBER BUILD and keep track of what you are doing in the same thread......it could be posted in the Bike Build section after you get the thread going and the bikes beyond the "parts" stage.

Dual builds sounds like fun. Always good to bounce ideas off someone else. Great deals on the bikes!
