My Bobage build

So after a very long time talking about I finally took the plunge and with the wee woman's blessing got to bob/chop the savage.

It was surprisingly simple and yes it's a little rough round the edges but feel very proud as it's all my own work.

Basically it's just the rear fender replaced with a 7" trailer mudguard and my home made sidemount plate hanger. I haven't (yet) raised the seat or replaced the rear stock exhaust with the planned straight through ( and airbox removal to be replaced with a cone) but I'm really pleased with the resuts! The full list of work done is actually quite extensive...

Headlight mount fashioned from scrap metal, bolts and intruder 1600 light shell coupled with vn 1200 bracket to replace perished oem plastic mount.

New flat sided carb made by Allens performance as original was fubar and 2nd hand / new old oem was 50 quid cheaper coupled with harley sportser push pull throttle.

Replaced starter motor, coil, and solenoid with parts from scrapped savage.

Rear mudguard was 7" trailer guard in steel painted matt black

Side panels and tank also sprayed over original gfx so suzuki eagles in gold are now very subtle embossed matt black.

Additional decals along with black n silver plate cost 15 quid from a mate who sign writes

Original back light recycled and used whilst I waited for fancy harley in fender style one. It looks so in keeping I'll probably keep it!

New crass skeleton hand mirrors and indicators (led) with two resistors under the seat to make em blink

Removed rear pegs

Stupid black leather American Eagle leather roll bag on handlebars to carry duct tape for when things drop off and wd40 for when it rains.

New Metzeller 880 marathons to replace perished original tractor tyres.

New pads and shoes for the brakes along with filters n oil change.

Still need to fit new front pegs and fanny around with seat for a touch more leg room and then to fit the straight through pipe and cone filter / neaten up all the wiring.

They were horrifically squeaky during the brake test on the MOT and the new ones will mean the back end is good for awhile now

I got this idea from JOG but he did it solely to reduce the tendency to lock up.

I do it to promote removal of the brake dust.

This goes against conventional wisdom.

remove the shoes from the hub and grind a 45° cut in the leading edge of the shoe. You want a sharp edge against the drum so it will scrape dust off and push it towards the open end of the drum. So dust will fall out on its own.

Another thing is moisture. You gotta get the rear brake hot enough to bake out any moisture.

can't guarantee it, but it works for me.

Still haven't ironed out the bloody strange electrical gremlin when it rains mind
