Best is subjective. Rotella T 15-40 will keep it happy and ticking along.
You can spend more, (she's worth it, whatever) but its good enough to keep a diesel alive. If you live in Hell, maybe the synthetic version is for you.
Rotella T is about thirteen bucks a Gallon. Recommend you get a few filters, unless you plan on selling

Yep. It's at Wal-ly World if you don't mind giving them your business, which I kinda do, but it's a block away...

Change it hot and change the filter without fail.

You can tip the bike and drain dirty oil out of the retention cup in the top end, though there's some controversy about whether that's a good idea. I don't do it.

,Tractor Supply has it. First time I got it was a little Non Chain type parts house. WM  costs a few cents less,, but  , beats paying WM.

Ok, first of all.... a "what oil do I use", question on ANY form, 2 or 4 wheel, is askin' fer a life long debate.

However..... you lucked out here because, more often than not, the "purple oil" will not come into play.

The "4 stroke special oil" will not come into play....

We kinda' favor an oil used by "other than gas" burning vehicles, because simply..... It works. (with an additive if you want, but only if you want)

You don't HAVE TO use this oil, but it has proven to be the best by people that have actually USED it, not by some engineer that promotes it or has "scientifically proven" that it works better.

Try the wally world special Rotella 15-40w, and if you feel you need to add some ZDDP additive (do a search)... but just by adding the Rotella it will quiet your baby down a bit.

You have a "wet clutch", a little bit heavier oil will quiet the operation down a tad, just remember to keep that idle at about 1500 rpm.

Rotella T6, 15/40. I added ZDDP additive but not mandatory. If you use it straight out of the bottle from Wally World you're doing good.  I tend to over-do things.

I use Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40 but it's really pricey.  I'll be switching to the Rotella T6 recommended by stewmills ↑

I might recommend reading the thread "4 Simple Answers to 4 Most Common Questions".  The various recommended oil(s) are covered among other very cool things.  It's got some great info and advice to help you cut your teeth on.  Check it out if you get a chance.

I use Golden Elixer. It's made of unicorn horns and hobbit tears. It also has just enough fairy dust for good clutch engagement.

Oh, it's $47 per ounce so it has to be better than that inexpensive Rotella swill.
