1.  What is a Raptor?...
A Raptor,... is a manually operated petcock, that is a direct bolt-on swap, for our flaky stock vacuum operated petcock...
(Our stock petcock is prone to leaking, air and/or fuel, and causing troublesome symptoms that mimic a serious carb problem...)

Test your Petcock,.. don't just turn it to Prime.. ...

The Raptor replacement eliminates these problems...
It is made by Yamaha, and is made for the Yamaha Raptor 660 ATV, and the part number to order one is 5LP-24500-01-00

How do I check my belt for proper tension?...
The factory tension gauge that's included in the toolkit is useless... If you adjust with it, your belt will be too tight...
(too tight, and the belt will interfere proper working of swingarm and suspension).  
Use this 90' degree twist method to check tension...

Twist with the thumb and fingers,... the belt should turn 90' to vertical quite easily...

What is the best jetting for my bike?...
The Savage, like most bikes, is jetted to pass EPA emission standards at sea level...
This tends to make the stock bike slightly lean for those of you at lower elevations... (If you are at, or above 2500ft elevation,... the stock set-up may be fine)...
Drilling out the brass plug that blocks the idle-mix adjustment, will allow to to access the mix screw, and richen the idle mix...
Adjusting this screw, can reduce some of the popping your stock bike does during deceleration,and at shut-off...

The most common performance Mod for a Savage is a Harley muffler and a K/N slip-in filter replacement...
Harley "Shorty" muffler is the most popular muffler swap for the Savage.
It gives a slightly louder, much deeper tone,... looks great,... and saves 7 lbs over the stock unit.   The chrome finish is top quality, and the swap is fairly easy...

This,.. will usually work best with a rejet...
The most common jetting for this Mod is...
At or near sea-level... Swap to a #150 main jet, and a #52.5 pilot...
At or above 2500ft... Swap to a #150 main jet, and keep the stock #50 pilot...
At or above 4000ft... reduce the pilot to a #47.5... and maybe reduce the main if yer' up pretty high and getting a lot of popping...

What oil should I use?...
The Savage is an old fashioned machine...
It's valves are actuated by flat tappet rockers, instead of roller type followers...
So,... it doesn't do well on modern automotive oils...
It likes oils with a good ZDDP additive...
These oils are usually motorcycle specific oils
There are many "Oil Wars" posted in the RSD if you search for them...
... but,... if you just want a simple, safe, recommendation, the general consensus is...

Use Shell Rotella T...or T6... This oil is approved for diesel and motorcycle engines, and comes in a synthetic (T6) or non-synth (T) grade...
Either is fine... Synth is better, but more expensive...
It's readily available at most US auto stores and WallMart...

If you have more money to burn... Amsoil, Klotz, Mobil One Racing, or V-Twin are also good

Use oils that are rated at least 40 on the second number...
and 10w or less in winter, if you are in cold country...
(5W-40 or 10W-40 for cold winter... 10W-40 or 20W-50 in hot summer)...
...or just 10W-40 year 'round if your climate is mild...
