final update guys,
my new speedo cable arrived today and i fitted it in about 15 minutes without a problem. the thing is, when i seen the twirly bit, i recognised it immediately..and i just know that that its neighbour is kicking about somewhere in my hut and i have no doubt i will stumble across it in the next few days.
