and retiring at the end of the month after 25 years of full time and substitute teaching. I will greatly miss all the kids, and the administration can kiss my arse. Wink

Congratulations!

I just attended the school board meeting last night....where they acknowledged the teachers that are retiring -and my wife is one of them.  She has been teaching for 39 years and feels exactly the same way you do about the kids.....and administration.  The new rules, testing, guidelines, etc. have stifled her teaching abilities and resulted in a poorer education for them, and more work for her.

They better do something.....I can't see any current teacher recommending to the younger generation that being a teacher is a good career choice.

I can see in the not too distant future where a teacher has a class of 40-50 students and his/her primary task is to keep the students working on the lessons programmed into their tablets.

Ohh, problems in education, we Must do something.

Ooops, that didn't help,

Well, if you were tuning an engine and changed something and it got worse, you would change it BACK..   But they just kept changing things.

Really? Accident?

Nothing is invested in education, because they only need our kids to be smart enough to fill out their tax returns.

arteacher:

I hope that you were able to retire based on your own plans and timetable rather
than problems with the administration
You deserve it after devoting 25 years of service to our children.

I greatly miss my clients, and their misbehaving voice and/or data circuits and/or equipment.  I would have been still on the job IF the miscalled administration would have just pointed me to the problems and let me fix things.

Whatever.  The world turns.  Retirement is not a long vacation.  It feels totally different.  You will miss the kids, but you will also enjoy the freedom of being unchained from the clock and calendar.

Since retired I have the time to cook.  My website is mainly so I can look and say "oh, we haven't had that for a while."  Stew is 4 hours actual cooking time, but on the other hand pizza is simply click on the Internet and it is delivered.  Some of the foods are remembered of my father's cooking.

=====================================

My best friend is the woman who was my eighth grade art and homeroom teacher.  Her husband was also an educator (they are both now retired).  They made me promise not to be a teacher.

Congrats to arteacher and to Mrs. Dave on your escape!

Retiring,, HA, ain't no such animal.....
All you're doing is rearranging your schedule.
Once a teacher, always a teacher.
However, now you get to choose your curriculum  Grin

Good on you, enjoy life at your own pace now, congrats......

Be aware of what Raydawg says, I know of two teachers who retired, one went relieving voluntarily, he likes the money, another seemed to get dragged back into it as there wasn't anyone to replace him. I drove buses and got out nearly three years before I got a pension, I never missed school children, or the weird hours or the low pay. I would only seek paid employment if economic circumstances really conspired against me.
