I'm putting the finishing touches on mine right now. The first 90% took a weekend. The last 10% has taken a month. I still need to find a good paint shop.

I'll be looking for a good paint shop too. I'll probably get mine painted at the end of this year. I want to build it, get it sorted, then paint it.

I do have photo's, so a build log will happen. Just not in real time.

Getting the tires warmed up.

Got it on halfway 45 minutes later

Took another 20 minutes to get the tube in there through the hole.
3 hours after I started I got the rear tire on! Only one scratch on the rim! (That's baby powder you see on the right.)

One more wheel to go and then it's on to the easier stuff!

No....I don't think so.  He is using the same size tire front and rear.

However.....He now has experience!

OK....I hope this is a dumb question.  Did you put rim strips over the spoke nipples before mounting the tire and tube?

My advice for mounting tires...

1. Use three irons

2. Never stop squeezing the tire into the groove

3. Use windex to keep it lubed

It came with rim strips and they were all aligned and covering the spokes. The tires are going in the proper direction too. I contacted heidenau about direction when using the same tire front and rear and they said to make them both go in the arrow direction.
I used baby powder but am trying the windex/ soap trick for the front. Just trying to keep the mess down.
What was so hard was being able to move the rim guards while still pushing on the tire. Really bummed I got a scratch on one. I'm kind of a perfectionist that way.
Off to get the front done in a bit! I'll post back how it goes.... Smiley

While I was building my Ryca, I had a good assortment of wet/dry sandpaper grits (up to 2000). Also a cheap buffing setup for my drill. I was able to clean up scratches in aluminum as long as they weren't too deep.

I should have added this:

Cover the rim with painter tape to avoid scratches. Another way to avoid scratches is to make sure that the tire spoons are the type with a slightly curved tip - it allows for minimum insertion so there's less chance of a scratch.

Got the front on. No scratches, only 2.5 hours and a bentback and bloody index fingernail. The weather is on a warming streak so I'm attacking the rear trailing arm tomorrow!
