HELP! brass washer for main jet....
02/28/15 at 14:57:12

hello all.., I've been reading up on all the topics of carb jetting and tuning and what not, and I just realized I dont have a brass washer under the main jet! Can this cause a big issue or can I just throw in any small brass washer to suit?

Also....my savage ran perfectly before starting my winter bobber build...in the meantime I've added a cheap ebay cone filter, and a harley dyna. My current set up is 155 main, 47.5 pilot. I live in Toronto and my riding area is about sea level with the occasional trip climbing 1000 ft in elevation. Anybody have any ideas what jetting changes I may have to do?

Thanks

Tony,.. I would get the factory washer... The thickness changes the distance between the main jet and the slide needle...
... or somebody with a carb apart, might be able to measure one for you...

Interesting...So, is it possible to use different washers for the main jet to tune mid-range jetting? (as opposed to pulling out the needle from above?)

I don't think the thickness of the washer will affect anything.  It does not change the height of the jet needle - it will just raise or lower the main jet a tad..however the change in height will have no effect on the level of the fuel in the float bowl (which is a potential way to make fine fuel mixture adjustments in the CV carb).

The needle jet (tapers needle attached to the slide) does not extend down into the needle jet (holds the main jet) - so raising or lowering the main jet with different thickness washers won't change a thing.

I've got a carb apart.  If it helps I can measure the washer later and update

You can load one photo to the thread for each post, by using the "Attach" option when you are on the page that opens when you hit "Reply".

If you want to post more than one picture for each post - you have to use a service like "tinypic" or a similar website to download your photos.

Go visit your local bike shop. They'll have 'em. Dave is right, the thickness wont matter. I had my carb off yesterday and thought of this thread. Other then being made from brass, there is noting special about that washer. I wouldn't hesitate to use a properly sized (no wider then the jet itself) zinc plated washer.
