You're much better off with one of the commercially available pigtails for under $10.



The ground can go anywhere from to frame or engine.
The positive lead of the pigtail can be on the starter relay,
on the other end of the battery cable.

Thanks for your post. Having had BMW bikes with built in charge ports and Being new to a Savage 650 I was not aware of them being available. Where can I get them?

I have a battery tender pigtail attached to my battery for charging purposes. I also have a cigarette lighter attachment that plugs into the battery tender pigtail that I use for running my gps.

I wired my "marine grade" 12v cig charger directly to the battery and put a switch on it/
I use it to charge my phone if needed, and to run my gps..

To charge accessories, you can use an adapter like this on your existing pigtail. They are cheap and very effective. I also have an extension calls to tuck my device in my saddlebag.
