Who needs a spare key,.. when you know your bike well enough to hot-wire it in a couple of minutes flat?...

One of the great things about this bike is its simplicity.  So you can actually do things like that.

I was working on my wife's Odyssey minivan a week or so ago ... so complicated!, there are about 1 million sensors that send info to the computer which then makes prudent adjustments to the fuel injectors or spark timing or whatever... Good luck trying to diagnose or fix a problem!  In can guarantee that I could never get that van started without a key if I had a week to work it out!

Edit: checked at the hardware store next to work - didn't have any blanks, but said if I get a blank he'll cut it for $0  - looks like I can get a blank for $3.99 on ebay - I think that's the way to go instead of trying to un-key the bike!

Did you see this post? He has two key blanks for sale.

Thanks Mike,

No I didn't see that.  I always forget about the Marketplace!

Funny thing - those blanks look like the mirror image of mine ? (i.e. slots are on the right, mine are on the left)

I wonder if that's true, or if the pic got somehow reversed?

You know what Ralph, they look the opposite of mine as well. Hmm. Like Dave said, I guess there are some different ones.

A google search of ilco yh51 says they will fit the S40, so IDK.

There's a letter code on the key, make sure the key has the same letter.

FYI - If you are looking for a fork-lock key blank (I don't think many people ever are), my local locksmith didn't have Suzuki blanks but did locate an ilco brand that fits perfect. Mine is key code SR61N.  Your key may be different, but if they have this one they should have the other variations that you may need.

I'm with Savage Cat. On all my vehicles I hide a spare key. Each has a ceramic magnet attached with JB weld. On the Savage, I keep it inside the tank behind the triple clamps. Clean the key and magent well before "gluing". Never lost one.

Since the rear brake light cover can be removed with just two phillips screws, I stuck my spare inside towards the bottom rear of the housing with double-sided sticky-tape and you'd never know it's there even when staring at it (when the cover is on of course).  Yes, I have more than one phillips screwdriver on my bike if needed.   Wink

And no...I am not telling any of you my address so you can some play tricks on me now that you know my secret.  Tongue Tongue

I just had a spare key made for my '06. The locksmith used an ilco X118 blank. He looked at the YH51 and said it wouldn't work. I think it probably makes a difference what year a particular bike is.
