Art, did you ever put a CD/DVD cleaner disk inside your bad optical drive to see if the reader sensor needed cleaning?

Or did the optical drive just die totally?

OF my disc drawer that you load the disc in won't even open when I try
the other day it opened all by itself, but I was afraid if I stuck the Linux disc in it it'd just eat it
sometime it starts opening and closing rythmicaly for no apparent reason, I don't know what that's all about, but I suspect it's dying

that Kindle fire look interesting, did I have wifi (might get a wireless router, the ide of laying in bed with a usable web surfing tool is tempting)
XP being continued? maybe I should turn updates back on

Art, setting up a Wifi router can be complicated.   Belkin is the brand I have found that will set itself up pretty much seamlessly and no-brainer style off an install disk.     MAKE SURE YOU GET THE INSTALL DISK !!

I currently use a Belkin N300 and am quite content with it.

On Ebay, there is a world full of these thing selling for $9-$30 (watch the shipping costs !!!)

Is it flawless?   For me it has been, but I like "easy to use" cheap stuff and buy that on purpose when I can.   Somebody didn't like these ones that are being moved out on Ebone, some were likely defective and some were upgraded to a better router that had a feature or something new that they needed.

Where to buy stuff cheap   http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=dvd+burner+internal+sata&tag=googhy...

Have you ever considered replacing the CD/DVD drive?   I mean they only cost like $20-$25 bucks.    You will need to know if you use a SATA or IDE connector before buying one.
