Issue: my wife, 126 lbs and I, 172 lbs, road two up the other day. Went about 1.5 hours. The road was fair, bumpy at times. When we got back I noted that the rear tire, left side, outside edge of tread, had been rubbing, on what I can only assume was the sissy bar//decorative trim bolt. Looks to me like it was a grazing hit. The rub is all the way around the tire but not a worn grove, it similar to what a tire would look like when rubbed on a curb while parking. Shocks are set to the middle notch. Tire was a little low on pressure for two. No play in wheel bearing( that I can detect) no noise from wheel bearing, wheel is tight in the slides.

Any recommendations?

Reply #1 - 04/04/14 at 13:47:15 Not an unusual problem. minimal tire clearance is common. You can add a little preload to the springs, but if you didn't bottom out you're fine. I would change the bolts to a button head type for more clearance.

Not to start a debate, but, that is based on a "statistical average" of a MAYBE 150# rider and MAYBE a 100# passenger. No luggage or the oil/fuel weights taken into account.

At 200+, I run 40psi front and rear, whether the bike is being operated solo or two up. Shock is set in the middle for solo, as tight as possible for two up, unless you use the stock shocks... run those on 5 all the time, they suck.

The factory tire pressure is okay (if not too stiff) for a rigid, for a swingarm equipped bike, too squishy.
