Hey,

So there is a savage in my building being run by this lady. I befriended her and eventually I offered to help her out with her savage.

She recently had a crash her rear shocks are cracked and some scuffs. I believe she had her fork seals compromised but she mentioned her mechanic fixed it.

So she needed an oil and filter change. I happily obliged and recommended Rotella.

Problems I encountered:
-There was no washer for the oil bolt.
-The oil filter small o-ring was missing.
-Oil was sludgy as hell, The sides of the oil filter door had oil crud on the sides.
-She has never heard of a spark plug.
-She has never heard of the air filter.
-She tells me that she hasnt changed her oil in 1.5 years.
-Mileage read about 31400km

From the sounds of all of this I am really concerned for her safety. Would she be in any danger?

In danger?? Nothing you've mentioned is a direct safety concern. BUT......the mere fact those items have been ignored require us to ask if true safety-related items,tires,brakes and the like,are in the same state of neglect. If so,you truely need to be concerned. Likewise,if the "repaired" fork seals were not really fixed that would sure be a safety issue.

It sounds like your friend needs help. And maybe a new "mechanic" to boot. Or maybe BOOT the mechanic Grin

I wouldn't assume it's her mechanic, it looks like if it ain't broke she wont fix it.

Oh you guys! I am more interested in the bike. I have a lady already.
She texted me last night asking me if I knew how to fix handlebars. I was puzzled as there was no damage to those. She dropped her bike again.

I will post a pic in a bit when i go down to the parking garage.

As for the verslavy: yes i mentioned it to her. Ask her mechanic about cam chain tensioner.

Her front pads and tires are in good shape. Her front pads were just replaced by her mech. From the sounds of her bike when riding it is backfire central. The bike has open exhausts. The idle mixture screw was turned out really far.

Gee,, I dunno,, THis gal have a license? I know, I know,, Its not YOur job to keep her alive,, but should she be on a bike? Its almost like an adult handing a kid a gun & walking away, from the sound of it. Are you sure youre doing her a favor? If you decide to help her get it/keep it, on the road, then Id put a Dyna muff on it. That way you can tune it,

If she twisted the bars you can loosen the lower end of the triple tree & crank them back straight. May hafta go past straight & let them relax a bit.

All these repairs are a moot point if she is just going to go out and drop the bike or wreck it again.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Splash. If she doesn't care enough to learn how to properly ride and take care of the bike, the repairs may be an exercise in futility.

Plus, if she wrecks and can somewhow vaguely tie it to something you touched working on it, she could possibly sue you. I hate to say it, but these days, you never know. You're in the best position to know if she'd be one for something like that or not.
