Any good suggestions on how to clean and shine the non chrome but shiny metal parts of the bike???? Its become a dull grey

Rubbing a spoke is not easy, so, I pulled the innards out of parachute cord, made 1 wrap around a spoke, pulled it tight & pulled one end, dragging it around & around & up & down the spoke. It gets HOT if you over do it.
