Engine removal
10/03/12 at 09:13:53

I'm going to pull the engine from the frame this winter to fix the head gasket leak that began when I switched to synthetic oil. It's a great invention but not for high-compression 650 mono-cylinders. I'll be using the Clymer manual. Anything of importance not included in it ?

Don't blame the synthetic oil......for a head gasket leak.....they can't possibly be related.  And if it is the head plug that is leaking.....doesn't matter what kind of oil you use.....they go bad and leak.

What makes you think your engine is high compression?  The stock compression ratio is 8.5:1........pretty darn low.

I used the Clymer Manual for my rebuild....and other than showing the starter idler gear washers.......everything for the upper end build seemed to be accurate.  Make note of where the positive cable for the starter is routed.....that is the one thing that got me confused.

If it's the head plug,.. you don't have to pull the engine to replace it...

To make life easy, and to also make it a one person job, think of it as removing the frame from the engine, not removing the engine from the frame. Loosen the bolts while upright, then lay the bike over so it rests on an engine case, remove the bolts and then lift the frame.

BUT...if you really wanna pull it out I say go for it...while out, install Lancers overbore kit and performance carb setup...then install a verslavy. Come next spring you'll have a ripper of a bike...

LMAO "high-compression."

Dude, it's 8.5:1 and the piston is smaller than a 305 Chevy piston.

I bet the oil leak happened when the oil pressure went up after you removed a clogged oil filter.

hahahaha high compression hahahahahahahaha
