Don't blame the synthetic oil......for a head gasket leak.....they can't possibly be related. And if it is the head plug that is leaking.....doesn't matter what kind of oil you use.....they go bad and leak.
What makes you think your engine is high compression? The stock compression ratio is 8.5:1........pretty darn low.
I used the Clymer Manual for my rebuild....and other than showing the starter idler gear washers.......everything for the upper end build seemed to be accurate. Make note of where the positive cable for the starter is routed.....that is the one thing that got me confused.
