Cap nut issue
09/02/12 at 17:46:56

The forward heat shield has two cap nuts.  I was able to remove the most forward of the two with no problem.  The back/lower cap nut has become a bit of an issue.  It turns with a 17mm socket but will not back out.  I've tapped it with a hammer, tried to wedge a screwdriver between the nut and washer, neither of these actions worked.  I've also tried to tighten this nut and it won't engage going that direction either.  I've sprayed it with WD40 in hopes that might do some good but I'm not too optomistic that will accomplish anything.
Any suggestions as to how to get this cap nut off would be appreciated.

THANKS Serowbot!  I guess, because the forward/upper cap nut bolt didn't extend all the way through the engine, I "assumed" the back bolt was the same, or at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. Embarrassed

The forward bolt is like the rear, both have a bolt all the way thru.

You'll need a wrench to tighten it up.

Well, with a 14mm on the kickstand side and a 17mm on the cap nut, withing 30 seconds, I had the cap nut and washer in my hand.  All I can say is my record of turning a 5 minute job into 3 hours is still in tack.
Thanks again Serowbot, now the neighbors won't have to listen to me discuss the sexual preference and family heritage of my Suzuki.
