tdc compression stroke, exhaust stroke????
04/20/12 at 16:24:37

first of all to find tdc you align the notches on the rotor cover and the rotor. i see the notch on the cover but no notch inside????

and whats the best way to know im tdc on the compression stroke. im pretty sure i got the piston to tdc with the cam lopes facing down and when i went to fire it up, it would fire like every other stroke it seemed like, i think i had it tdc on the exhaust stroke. ill will try again tomorrow when my battery is charged.

some good tips would be awesome. all i wanna do is ride this savage and its just problem after problem, worst investment ever lol. just sayn :'(

Look at the valves. When theyre all 4 closed & the notches line up.. TDC compression,,

ok well then cool, thats how it was. then it must be a carb problem, flooding i think. i was getting smoke (gasoline mist) shooting out of my carb when i cranked it over. checked the float needle valve, it moved freely and i adjusted it to where it would get alil less fuel. still no start up, it would just catch fire every couple of stroke.

any ideas?

o yea and where are the notches for finding tdc? i toke the big flathead screw off and saw a notch on the cover, but no other notch???

Do this simple test...
Test your Petcock,.. don't just turn it to Prime..

then its gotta be my petcock cause when i first got the bike and drained the oil it was almost straight gas in the case! and when i pull the line off on the front of the carb it has constant gas dripping out.

so what exactly is the diaphram?

It's the rubber valve inside the stock vacuum petcock that gets engine vacuum pulled against it to open fuel flow to the carb..

Get a Raptor... best $30 bucks you'll ever spend on this bike...

Thats the clue,, float isnt closing & petcork isnt stopping the gas.

Have you checked the valves out? A too tight intake maybe?

It starts okay?

Only two ways for gas to enter the carb... past the float needle, or down that vacuum tube...
If it ain't one, it's the other... If you didn't find it, you missed something, check again...

Where exactly is the "mist' coming from?... from what part of the carb?, shooting what direction?...

Nothing to do with engine or valves... unless your engine is running backwards...(PS... that's a joke, it ain't goin' backwards)...

the gas mist is being shot towards the rear of the bike out of the back where the airfilter boot would hook up

So, this is without the boot on?...

Try connecting the boot and filter...  (see if the filter and airbox loads up)..
If it does,... you are back to the vac line and float needle...

ok i will try it, but before the bike ran with no boot or filter just fine. so i guess it has to be the vacuum line or float valve. i tweaked the float to where it would close with less gas and its still flooding like crazy. so its gotta be the vac line... the vac hose is in good shape and clamped of both ends... so idk
