Greetings! I just bought my 2006 S40 yesterday and I am ofcourse all excited about making some changes to it. I found this great exhaust video on you tube.

That is exactly how I want to set my exhaust up. It looks like just a straight pipe off the header. I want it to be ridiculously loud after riding a 250 for a while I want to make some noise.
I understand that I will need to have the carb rejetted. I have no mechanical ability and will take it to the local chopper shop (

/) in town. I don't want to mess the carb up. What do I want to ask for? I notice from reading around here the last few days that there are different size jets. What will work the best with a straight pipe? Will I need anything else to make this work?
Also will it be ok to change back to a stock muffler after rejetting if I get tired of the noise?

A straight pipe is very hard to jet for... and it will depend on your location, elevation, temps, etc...
Jetting is never perfect... because it changes with the weather...
These variances will be more noticeable with a straight pipe...
You will likely lose a lot of torque from the un-baffled pipe...
I'd recommend having at least a small baffle in the pipe... it won't be visible and you'll still set off car alarms everywhere you go...
...if you rejet for the straight pipe, baffled or un-baffled,.. you'll have to rejet to go back to stock...
... and the idle speed of the bike in the video is way too slow... the oil pump won't function well at that rpm... that engine is destined for a short life...

Some of the deep whomp you hear is from the bike being partly inside. It would sound different outside at speed.

This post got me to thinking: I wonder if it would be possible to run an oil line from the service port on the bottom up to a fitting on the top of the motor so it dripped oil directly on the cam journals.
Cause I liked that slow idle.
Or could the oil pump be reworked to provide more pressure?

Hmmm... wonder what that knock was when he went in to read 652?
+1 idle too slow.
when the head is cold, you have plenty of pressure at idle. I had a gage on the pressure port and it went up to 50 psi when cold, then dropped to 5 when hot. so you need volume or different head bearings.

The PSI difference is due to the thickness of the cold oil?...
Was that with 10w-40?...

this is what mine sounds like with straight pipe and no baffle. like serow said, you will lose some torque on low end and is hard to jet for.

i think it's due to the clearance between the cam and journals.

Thanks for all the feed back! I will look around for a baffle. I am hoping to save a lot of money over buying a slip on with a stright piece of pipe and a small baffle in it. I also like the straight pipe look over a big muffler. I couldn't believe how huge that stock muffler is.

Hahaha, soooo true!
I pulled mine off last night, and literally just got it seperated from the header pipe (PB Blaster worked like a champ to free it up enough to seperate the two) and I was amazed at how much heavier it is than either of the 2 new ones I'm going to try out.

Sounds so familiar...I had the stocker when I bought it, replaced it with a HD takeoff, then settled (for now) on a big Ol Fishtail. Even the fishtail is lighter than the Stocker. The HD was the lightest of the 3 even with and angled extension piece.
