Clutch
10/22/10 at 22:15:01

I am haveing problems with my clutch.

How do you adjust it correctly and what oil should be in the engine.

Only had the bike 2 mths it had been stood 4yrs just got it running put car engine oil in it with it being a 4 stroke fitted new clutch cable .

Tried adjusting clutch cable  up and down but the gears seem to clunk in and out of gears when changeing them whilst rideing the bike . ???

Any ideas please Very frustrating i am trying to learn about this lovely bike .

Like hard to shift into gears its not smooth. Its shifting into gears but not smooth more like your forceing into gears .  And thank you from above 10 40s oil any api rateing ? or just any 10 40s will do.

there's quite few that'll work.
search oil
diesel grade oil has the best additive package.

How do you have the clutch lever adjusted?
should have about an 1/8" gap when you take the slop out of the cable.
are you shifting at low rpms or high?

Thanks on oil grade will have a shop around for the best one its got mutigrade 51w 50 in at the moment.

Has for high rpm and low whilst changeing gear its all the time. But its much easy whilst doing 30 to 40k onwards higher revs and speed its better but if your slowing down its like jerky . Jerky lower speeds. Especially if your crawling in 1st gear.

Use a good synthetic motorcycle oil,Like Klotz,Engine will run cooler, You will use less oil,And trans will shift easier. No clutch problems if you use motorcycle oil.

Do a search for oil, diesel oil, car oil and you'll see what been used before and what to watch out for.  Wally sells rotella in the 15w40 and the T6 in the blue jug at the best price.  And the T6 has the correct rating for the bike.

You must be a new rider, practice, practice, practice.  1st gear will always be a bit jerky, the key is to pull in the clutch and let it roll.  When you need to speed up, rev up to about 2k rpm and slip the clutch.

About my english  .... the spellchek is really working on this forum ... just need to pay some attention to the red underlines ...
I have the pics of the bike as i bought it. I think everything is stock. it rides really good, i bought it for 850 euros, it has 17000 km, an it is worthy! The weather here is great, and i am very happy with the bike!
Good luck to all the savagers!

Great forum you all have here and very informative.

My names Rod im from Scotland but stay in Cyprus. I just bought a 92 Savage(but im guessing its probably older model) but only got it the day before i had to come back to Africa for work and im going to have to wait 5 weeks before i can enjoy it again Shocked

Theres a few things that need tidying up so looking forward to getting my hands dirty doing that.

Yes i did that and a 1/8 gap at the handle bar lever I also changed the oil like you said PJ1 silverline 10-40s Ten euro a lt filled to correct level in the small rould looking glass Its a bit better but still got the jerk whilst slowing down and building speed only seems alright at a steedy 45 50 k but you get increasing speed and down speed.
