New oil leak left (shifter) side

Noticing about a tablespoon of oil on the ground in the morning, under the left side crankcase for the past 3 days. Stopped for a few minutes while riding today, and when I came back to the bike, noticed a few drops under the same area. I know that gravity plays a big part on diagnosing leaks, but would anyone know where to start looking? Any known leak areas down under? I'm pretty much convinced that this is not part of the head plug/cap leak.

Horatio Hawkshaw Ex Member	Re: New oil leak left (shifter) side Reply #1 - 06/04/10 at 13:00:57 There is an oil seal around the shaft (shifter) I replaced mine and the small amount I was dripping on the garage floor stopped. That could be the source of your leak. It's not too big of a job.

Dust it with flour from the kitchen on the suspected areas. If no signs of oil in one hour, start engine and run a few minutes, then watch for the wet spot to appear. phelonius

someone said get that spray on foot powder

couple places that might not be evident...
tighten the footpeg peg bolts, those go thru the case and oil collects in there.
starter black hole, oil can drip in there from just about anywhere and it'll drip out around the drive pulley.
I had a leak from the wiring going into the stator cover. Remove the pulley cover, clean as best you can, clean the port with brake cleaner and squirt some RTV in there. Well it did work.

I've had two leaks that gave symptoms like that. One was:

Spread out sheet of newspaper is easier to clean up than the four.

You will be surprised how easy it is to spot a leak in the dark as all you see is what's in the beam of the light. A LED penlight works well. Ride Safe Marine5317
