Stock handlebar size and mini apes
04/20/10 at 05:01:42

Are they 7/8 or 1 inch?  What size apes and I put on the bike without changing the cables or electrical.  My bike has the buckhorn style bars.

I have OEM drag bars as per the Mk I (4-speed) model, and bars are 1".
Undecided
Trouble with 1" bars, they provide nice grip BUT are a pain to fnid aftermarket stuff that isn't intended for HD... $$$

most imprt cruisers carry 1" bars, alomng with HD. You are limited on height of the bars by the cables. All you can really do is get the shortest risers you can and then the bar with the largest rise that will work tih the stock cables.
Cables aren't that hard to change or fix. If you call Barnett, they will make a cables however long you want. Most good indie shops will make throttle cables, and a hydralic shop can make yu a longer brake hose.  Extending the electrical is very easy too.

10 inch mini apes will work just fine, all you have to do is re-route the cables.

Yeah, I wanna see that since the risers are already like 5" tall and even installing 30" drag bars, you have to leave 1 1/2" of the bar end exposed since the wires and brake line won't stretch that far.....this is on an 08 S40.

You didn't say it was an 08 S40 but the original poster mentioned he had buck horns which is indicative of the earlier models that do not have such tall risers.

This is my bike with 10 in mini apes before I installed the Road King tank and Girder front end. It is a 2000 Savage.

http://www.jirehcycles.com/ 10" Apes, leather grips, mirrors: pn's 50-221, 35-55, 46-32.  My apes were under $30, cost now "call".  The wires fit my bars, the brake hose was short.  Needed a stainless steel braided brake hose anyhow.  Stainless steel wrap-ties keep the bars neat.

The bars were 32.77" wide.  Now just 30" wide.

Biltwell makes some 8" rise bars if the 10" leave ya short a cable hose.

http://www.biltwellinc.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=52

Their bars are sweet.  You can get 'em in 1", and without the HD dimples.  The thick wall and anvil logo capping the left end mean that you can't run the OEM caps, though.

That said, I do love my Frisco's.....

Are they 1" all the way? or 1" where the risers clamp and 7/8" controls?

Also, do you think putting 5" risers w/ the stock buckhorn handlebars would look stupid? I'm not sure if they would or not...

They make 'em in chrome or black.  Same price, too!  They make a lot of sweet styles, man.  If I wasn't so in love with the Frisco's, I'd probably be running the Window Bars.  Check the link.

Hey drums1, did you spin up those risers yourself?  VERY cool, I gotta say!
