But I have noticed that the brake lever on the rear wheel has black soot from the exhaust and when I had the header off to change the tensioner, I noticed the port was black with soot as well. What does this tell me about how well it is tuned?

Reply #1 - 07/31/13 at 06:55:45 Carbs arent constant, the air/fuel mix varies as the slide opens & different circuits are utilized,, black is rich, so, somewhere, its rich,, maybe everywhere,, but I doubt it,,

Reply #4 - 07/31/13 at 08:18:51 Modern fuel burns black.....even with a good mix on the carb. Back in the old days of good leaded gasoline you coulld look for a nice dark grey color on the exhaust......but no more. Even my fuel injected car that is compuiterized and runs an ideal mixture all the time has a sooty black exhaust.
