Cruising to tunes
08/25/08 at 14:18:29

Hey Gang does anyone in hear ride with or know of anyone that has ridden and listened to tunes at the same time. I am planning on taking a nice solo cruise and want to take my MP3 with me but cant see to find earplugs that will stay in place while I slide on my helmet. In case your wondering where the MP3 will be; I bought a special reebok bookbag that has the MP3 slot hold and opening for the earplugs to run up my back and into my helmet.

I was looking into this a while back but didn't go any farther than the look. There is a company (or ten) that makes reasonable priced helmet speakers. If you spent a bit of money for your lid then you've probably got cutouts of sorts around your ears. These helmet speakers are flat and stick in to those openings. you just plug the cable into your iPod and away you go listening to the tunes.

The specs are pretty impressive and the cost for some of them were downright acceptable. Just google speakers and motorcycle helmets and you should be in business. Oh, what the hey . . . I did it for you just to get you started. Some of these sites offer the same products but the prices vary by quite a bit.

i listen to my mp3 player all the time. I've been through many different earphones since I started riding with them and so far the best i've found are ultimate ears. www.ultimateears.com
Just don't play them so loud that you can't hear whats going on around you.

I thought about trying to just run the earbuds that come with an iPod up through the padding in my helmet, since the side pads velcro out. Haven't had a chance to actually try it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work if you don't want to spend $$ on a helmet system...

I wear earbuds and listen to the XM radio on long rides.  Just put in the buds, slip the helmet on over them.

Something that might help is the thin silk or synthetic watch cap that some wear under their helmet to absorb sweat and odor. I've found that I have much less trouble with the helmet hooking my ears or eyeglasses when I use one. It might help with ear buds.

Most states allow at least one speaker inside the helmet. Probably should keep one ear clear for what's going on around you anyway 'cause nobody else is going to look out for us. It's not stereo but you hear all that's there when you run it into mono - and how good really is the audio experience going to be at 60 in the wind on a thumper?

I for one am annoyed all over the place when I'm forced to listen to other biker's stuff through their speakers that are turned up loud enough to hear at highway speeds and don't get turned down at stop lights. Right up there with trunk rattling hip-hop bass lines and the two straight pipe Harley guys who go home through my neighborhood between 1:30 and 3:00 in the morning and circle the block a couple of times so we all know they got home safely again.

There, I feel better already.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if this thread ran away like the "busted" thread?

I wear one earbud if I want to listen to music while I ride.  I like my Skull Candy brand buds.  Comfy.   Smiley
