Too much leg.
08/25/08 at 09:55:43

I was given a "95" LS650 Savage last Thanksgiving.  Poor thing sat outside for 10 years, never being started.  To cut it short I brought it back to life and am now on the road.
My problem is that my legs are too long.  I fabricated two custom seats to fix the problem, they both work great but I now sit farther back and higher up than on a stock seat.  This greatly affects the center of gravity hence the handling.
I really like this bike and wonder "am I the only one?".
Does anyone know of an after market fix to move the front pegs forward/down, along with the rear break and shift lever in order to add a couple, three inches of leg room?
I sure could use some help or suggestions.
Thanks

Yeah, you can put forward controls, you can also put 12" shocks, (Intruder shocks fit) that's what I have on mine.  With those and the 2" seat lift my seat is at 30.5".
Rode my buddies sportster the other day, and my legs thought they were on a kiddie ride!  I got a cramp in my butt pulling my leg up to the pegs taking off from a light,...and I'm only 5'-8"!

Serowbot; tell me about the Intruder shocks. What other modifications did you need to do for them to fit?

Just a little trimming on the beltguard near the front drive pulley to accont for the extra angle height. Otherwise they bolt right up.  I took my beltgruard off...looks better.  Here's a pic...

Nice look to that bike. Fork boots are a nice touch. Does the extra height push you forward on the seat?

2" lift  on the front end of the seat...so, no sliding forward.

Lifting the front of the seat is the easiest and cheapest modification you can do for more leg room, it makes a world of difference. I had to change the handle bars from the stock buckhorns to a sportster or clubman style for a little more arm room and a different hand position. I have forward control kits advailable which move your feet four inches forward but try the seat mod first, if you are still interested in the forward controls send me a PM.

Hi serowbot, lovely job, what size or model of intruder shocks did you use, I need to do the same, as when the bike is loaded the tire is scraping up inside the mudguard I looked up shocks, and there are four or five different models,,,cheers,,kenny

90's model 800 intruder, I think there the same from 85' to 2004...the real choppery looking ones.  The 1400's might be the same shocks, not sure, but they look the same.

Thinking back,..I think I used a smaller washer on the outside of the top bolt because of the inset of the mount...no biggy just a detail that I remember.

Serowbot; can you post a full picture of your bike from the side?
I like the fork boot look with a raised rear. Wondering how it would look on my white 07.
thanks
