primary drive nut trouble

This 30mm nut lefty nut is trying to round off. any suggestions on how to break it loose and not ruin it. I've applied enough muscle to shove the bike down on the shocks and the socket slipped and chewed a corner on the nut.

When I removed mine, first mine is a 32 MM and I used an air impact gun..buzzed that sucker right off. Perhaps you can use or find someone with an impact driver????

Got a 6 point socket?
Sounds like you weren't all the way on or you cracked a socket.

You're talking about the primary drive pulley, right? Mine was 32mm too.
To remove it, I had my wife sit on the bike and hold the rear brake pedal. I used that to provide counter torque while I turned the socket to loosen the nut.
I used a 1/2" torque wrench (approx 28" long) with a 6 side 32mm socket. It came off with little effort and went back on (torqued to 85ft/lbs) with the same little effort.

I'm using a 12 point socket and I was wondering if that was causing some of the trouble and just to confirm it should come off to the right. I'll go buy a 6 point socket.

I tossed all my 12 point sockets 20 years ago.
For low torque applications, they work ok. But if you're trying to break a nut loose or really trying to tighten something down, they tend to slip off the nut and can end up rounding the nut off...
Get a 6 side socket with a breaker bar and try again...

Impact wrench helps, electric or Air. Borrow one..... neighbor, B-I-L , Uncle .... whom ever, but it makes for a much easier job.

Yes, mine is also 32mm and it came off with no problem once the guys and gals here reminded me that it was reverse threaded as in turning it left actually tightens it.

Mine is an '88 and the primary drive nut is 30mm. The clutch nut is 32mm. I had a heck of a time getting the primary loosened, but I wedged two pennies in the gears (1 penny alone got bent) and had to stand on a breaker bar to get it loosened (my wife held everything steady.)
I am not going to recommend that because standing on a bar supported only by a stuck nut is stupid... it's dangerous for you and dangerous for the parts you're putting uncontrolled pressure on. With the disclaimer out of the way, it worked great.

Sounds like a line from a lecture at a table dancing school.
