I've heard some say they just bought an O-ring and used it. I missed it... how did you get the penny out?

Universal law all kids must follow, watch dad work and just before he's done toss something. Then watch him cry.
I got a o-ring kit from harbour crap. All sizes, comes in real handy for replacing the things kids throw or wear out. (leave the wornout ones on the floor makes the good ones easier to find)

Last time I took my cable off I noticed that there was no 0 ring,While at the stealership the other day I ask the guy behind the counter if he had one,he checked on his computer, guess what ?it doesen't show one,
so I ride without one, never a leak so I don't worry about it.

I dont know how many ive lost, but, I just grab an o-ring of about the right thickness & cut it at an angle, poke it in the threaded part & decide where to cut it & at what angle to make it seal off & make one when I need one. I would like to have an assortment, tho, so, Ill look in at Harbor Fright & see if the price scares me.

Mine had no washer when i got the bike, with no evidence of a leak.
For peace of mind I fitted an O ring, if only to make it seat nicely.

Mine leaked like crazy when I lost my o-ring.
Advance auto parts has a pack of fuel injector o-rings in the HELP! section. The pack has about 20 rings of different sizes and thicknesses. Just make sure that they are nitrile (solvent safe) rubber.

I live in a small town with one of those hardware stores that has the section of drawers with all sorts of odds and ends of hardware and fittings. I do enough odd projects that they've gotten used to me, so they didn't bat an eye when I explained my problem, picked out several different sizes of o-rings, and walked out to my bike. I selected on of the proper thickness and a diameter large enough to interfere slightly with the theads (hopefully it won't fall out next time), went back in, returned the unused o-rings to their proper bins, and paid for the one that I used.
Small towns are great! Try to do that in your your typical big-city plastic fantastic home-supply warehouse.

Yeah - that's why in my mind, Ace is just about the only place to go. Even here in metro Orlando, you can still do stuff like that.
Lowe's/Home Depot? Not bloody likely.
And NAPA would have the O-ring, but they'd want you to bring the tank in to them. They'd take it behind the counter, fit it, hand it back and charge you $5.

OK I have replaced the cam chain, I went through the whole where is TDC at reassembly, I really felt like I had it right as the cam lobes were in the down position and the piston was as close to TDC as I could tell (white mark was close to 3 O'clock on crankshaft) reassembled primed the carb, pulled out the choke, hit the starter and voila kicks right off, I let it idle for a minute pushed in the choke and began to move the throttle a little it does ok until about half throttle then it does not run smooth sounds like you are gunning it and dark smoke comes out of the muffler in time with the engine rev.

sounds like you're flooding.
it may be the petcock, check the vent line for fuel.
then I'd yank off the carb and check it.
also check the hoses, all good and tight.
