dumb question sissy bar

Hi everyone, I'm new to bikes in general and new to this site also. I've got an '07 S40 and I'm wondering if a sissy bar off of a 97 savage will fit on it. Wouldn't think that there would be a difference but better to check before I get it. Thanks.

Welcome! Not a dumb question,
You will need to get new side rails to allow for the sissy bar to mount. Plus you will need to purchase a sissy bar. Ebay would be the best place to purchase both items.
I used 07 side rails on my 96 so they are relatively interchangeable.
If you use the below site it will show the diagrams to illustrate what we are talking about. Just select categories that are approriate. Then click on "pillion handle". Go back and repeat with different year.

Once again ebay will be way. way cheaper.
If you have any further questions, let us know.

Thanks for the answers. The sissy bar I actually found on ebay, didn't know anything about the new side bars though. I'll keep looking for that one. Thanks for that website, i was looking for a good parts breakdown.

It's worth putting a post in the Marketplace forum. You'll probably find someone on here wants to put the new style rail on an older bike with their sissy bar removed, and might just swap rails with you

As a matter of fact I just happen to have a couple of sets of the sissy bar type side rails. Don't have the sissy bar but I do have the proper side rails that will accept the sissy bar. Shoot me a PM and we'll talk.

I'm also looking for this for my 07... If I buy it new, as a "set", that should include the required rails and the sissy bar, right?
I found it for $140.00 new from BabbittsOnline, which is the best price for a new one.

I've had no luck finding parts on EBay for the bike, unless I'm using the wrong search terms?!

Simon, i noticed I don't get too many results when I type in s40 on ebay, but when I put in ls650 I get around 100 or so.

Since the S40 and LS650 are practically the same bike (just a few minor cosmetic differences)just about anything you find for a LS650 will work on the S40

I'd be willing to trade my sissy bar rails for a set of non-sissy bar rails (i want to remove the SB)
shoot me a PM if your interested.
EDIT: i forgot to mention they are from a 2000 savage
