Mounting Throw Over Saddle Bags?

Hi all -

Please pardon a seriously beginner question: Smiley

but is there anything to mounting the "throw-over" style saddle bags?

I just got a set of the Suzuki bags, installed the saddle bag brackets. But the bags themselves didn't say anything about how they are mounted -- just let gravity hold them down?

I've also noticed that there are a couple of little nylon webbing loops at the bottom of each bag -- looks like a spot to run a string to tie them on, or something like that.

Any pointers?

You can use bungee cords to cross over and connect the loops.
Or you can devise another way to secure the bags.

Mine are over the seat style for quick removal. I use nylon straps with release snaps to hold them on. The straps are attached to the blinker lights and shocks at the connection to the fender. When the bags are OFF, I just snap the straps together so they dont get into the spokes. Works like a charm until I can afford the nice hard bags I am looking for!

He built straps of metal that screwed to the fender braces & Pinched the bags there, so the "Over" part was gone, just 2 bags mounted independantly. REally a class job. No idea where the pics are.

did something like that but cut plywood inserts for in the bags.4 conduit straps on each bag to oem brackets..holding up nicely,after 2 years had to re squeeze one strap after i stuffed TOO(no such thing)much beer into one of the bags....used paper grocery bags to make the template for the ply, screws, nuts, and washers finished it off..

Online I also saw that someone was mounting the "throw over" bags under the seat -- more secure, I guess, but it sounds like you would still need to do something (bungee, straps, etc.) to keep the bags from flapping in the wind. Maybe?

But if it is true that you really must secure the throw-over bags, I wonder why Suzuki didn't include anything to do this with their "official" bags...

Reply #5 - 05/30/08 at 15:00:24 When mounting suzuki bags they fit great if you mount them under the seat but you need to cut out around the rectifier and all you have to do is tie them to the bottom of the saddle bag brackets ...Suzuki sells them as well...Dave
