I'm in the process of installing a HD cop seat on my Savage. It will have 6" coil springs mounted on either side of it, and they will be mounted to the same frame member rods that the top of the rear shocks are mounted to, via a pair of handlebar clamps.  The nose of the seat will pivot on a tubular bracket which will fit on the same cross brace that the gas tank fits to.  No welding or butchering the Savage. The seat will spring up and down on the 2 rear springs while pivoting on the nose bracket.  I built a similar arrangement for an old Honda I  had.  You feel no road shock or vibration with this design.  I tried several times to post a close-up of the Honda seat but every time I try to preview the posting, a note comes up by the 'browse' box, which says that for security reasons I have to re-post the pic, and when I do that and try to preview again, the same security request comes up in the browse box, and so on and so on.  So I gave up.
