It's pretty light, I can move it around and lift that back end up off the ground easily, but the hardtail is definitely hefty. It'll be lighter than a stock savage for sure (although it's hard for me to remember, this one hasn't been in stock form in a LONG time), but I don't think it will be a huge difference.
here's one more pic from this weekend.

Really looking sweet! I love that custom exhaust. I was wondering how hard it would be to build a custom one. And the oil tank really is too cool!...Or is that your "ready supply" of liquids?

I know what you mean about pics being decieving. Everytime I post a pic of my bike, I get the " my arms don't reach that high" statement. Mine are only 12 inch and run at shirt pocket level. Hutch
hey do u need to get ur wire extended for that ape hanger? If u do,where u get them at?

Mine are ten inch and I had plenty of cable. All I had to do was re-route them a bit. Mine is a 2000 Savage that originally had the pullbacks.

Yes, I replaced the forks with a Over length Girder front end. But I had put the mini apes on the bike before I changed out the front end.

Yup still around, still chipping away at it. The build got delayed as summer broke in because of other projects and commitments, but now I'm back to it. I'm hoping I can just crank on it during the month of August and actually get her finished and running.
The oil tank is too hold all the electronics and wiring, the end caps are a son of a pregnant dog to get off (you have to take the whole thing off the bike really), so totally not useful as a secret stash spot.
The exhaust... oh the exhaust. This was my first time welding anything that thin... with a fluxcore wire feed no less, and I had a hell of a time with it. I lost count of the number of burn throughs. But it's done, I think the design of it came out great and the pipe wrap will cover my nasty looking welds. The next trick will be tuning it all. Between the performance carb and the wide open pipe it should be a fun ride. (I'm pretty sure a baffle will be in order)
Cable wise... I thought I was going to need a new throttle cable, but after messing around with the one that originally came with Lancer's carb I've got it working now. New brake hose is definitely in order, I'm going to guess the same thing for the clutch, but we'll see.
