What size is the hose that runs from the cylinder head to the air box?

bigger, he's looking for the breather hose.

3/8 is about fuel hose size.

Something like 1/2 or 5/8's

Think Greg's ID measure is about right.  Outside diameter may be 1/2" but most hoses are measures ID.

EDIT: at least when I rebuild my engine it looked about that size.

Yep.

Tubing is sized by OD (though sometimes it is sized with both as in 4 x 6 mm).  Hose and pipe are sized by I.D.

So, the breather hose is about 3/8 ID (and looks like 1/2 OD).  My only wonder is if it is 10 MM since it is no doubt metric (.375" vs .393").

I just know that it fits very nicely on my K&N breather filter.

Ok,   at home now,.... ran out to the garage and dug up the "dead-head".  And.... I actually found my metric steel rule.

The breather pipe measures 10mm I.D., and "about" 12mm O.D.  That does not include the rib/ridge.

That did it...I went out to the garage and dug up my "dead head" hose...and actually found my calipers Tongue

The hose measures ~.437" or 7/16" or >11 mm ID.

And .565" or 9/16" or <15 mm OD

With a <.125" or <1/8" or <2 mm wall thickness.

There.  I think we covered it Tongue
