I didn't know that.  Since I was thinking that the 155 was possibly too rich the bluing didn't make sense.  Now I understand.

You only have to turn the idle screw to make the engine idle smoothly.  There is not a particular set point 'cause all bikes have little differences.  Once you get that set, then adjust the idle speed and forget it.  You're good to go.

The black soot could be from the 155 main.  Check your plug and see what color it is.

Jumpin in here... I use an old fashion dwell meter to adjust mine. Simply hook up on the coil of the cyl. carb. you are adjusting (for other multy cyl. bikes) set to rpms and find the middle point if the high and low rpms as you are adjusting carb. Always got very good results.

The idle air screw is adjusted for best running.  Turning the screw goes all the way in or all the way out goes from bad to bad.  It is the middle good point that you look for.  It is supposedly set that way at the factory and then plugged...

Then you set the idle speed with the thumb adjuster on the other side....a real good place to use your tach/dwell meter, too.  What is it?  1150 +\- 50 RPMs...
