This is originally from a post by Paladin with contributions from several members.  It gets added to occasionally.

Savage Sounds in MP3 format:
Stock
Stock #2
BadDog
Dyna
Hard Krome
Jardine Slip-On
MAC Slip-On
Raask Dragpipe
Screamin' Eagle
SuperTrapp
Sportster

These can hopefully help give you an idea of what to expect.  Please note that these are recorded by different people with different equipment, so it's not necessarily an "apples-to-apples" comparison.

Finally,  three sounds recorded by same equipment, same bike (2001 LS650).   WAV format, should open on most computers.

Note, there is a slight delay / quite spot on each as I walk from my wife's laptop to the bike to start it up.

Stock OEM muffelr:

Dyna Stock take-off.

I drilled my stock exhaust using a 5/16 bit. I recorded 4 holes and 8 holes.

4 holes: http://files.thebenics.com/4x5-16_holes.mp3

8 holes: http://files.thebenics.com/8x5-16-holesholes.mp3

I installed a Dyna muffler but it wasn't loud enough for me. I drilled a 3/8" hole in the freeze plug in the baffle. Pretty much perfect!

I drilled the baffle out to a 1/2" hole. It is deeper and louder.

I installed a Thrush glasspack p/n 24210. This is the sound with no additional baffles. It is very deep. Much deeper than the file makes it sound. It is also very loud. Not as loud as a straight pipe, but very loud.

If you want loud and have the money get the Raask. It consists of a larger diameter header with an internally baffled straight pipe attached. If you go easy it is not too loud and won't upset the neighbours, but when you "get on it" it is very loud. At idle it is 3 db over legal in Ontario.
