stupid question ?
04/21/06 at 12:26:08

this may be a stupid question but I need to know  I was cleaning my bike and saw that I'm missing one of the bolts that hold the exhaust on the head. I have'nt noticed a leak but would still like to fix it. My question is due to the high temp there do I have to get the bolt from the dealer or could I just take the other one into the hardware store and match it up?  Any help will be greatly appreciated

I'd probably put a bit of anti-seize compound on the new bolt too so you'll be able to remove it in the future.

On KLX I use stainless steel allen bolts with a bit of copper grease to hold the header to the head as it were.

I lost a header bolt and replaced both with stainless steel allen heads. Much easier to remove and replace. Infact, any time I need to replace a nut or bolt on the bike I replace them with allen head stainless. Got them from a local hardware store that had lots of different nuts, bolts and screws.

When I'm replacing nuts I try to use K nuts, lighter and self locking.

It's when your nut gets in a bind, you say "K, what do I do now?"  Grin
