Besides ebay auctions, what vendor offers the best price on Progressive 412 shocks?

I got mine here - had them in less then 2 weeks - it's a pretty good price, most likely not the best

www.phatperformanceparts.com - $198.95 w/shipping

Exactly what I was looking for, Reelthing! That's the lowest price I've seen. Thanks! I did not even know about this vendor, nor had it ever come up in my web searches. Almost makes the Progressives affordable soon....Smiley

Check out Jirehcycles.com, I believe they have them in the $170's.

How would one know if a set off eBay would fit the Savage.  I see many there that have sometime gone for cheap, but I am unsure whether they would all work for the Savage.

Wow, lancer, that's a great price. Never would have heard of that vendor in a million years. Now I can definitely pursue the 412s!

While you're at it, request a catalog from Jireh.  It's like a phone book of bike stuff.

gave them a call - they only carry after market HD parts, can not cross to the manufacture part number -
if I'm buying new I'd want the correct shock out of the box - no thanks

A sportster is essentially the same size as a Savage, and every part I have put on my bike has worked just fine.  The Progressive 412's and I had, and the 418's I have now came from H-D's and they work great.  All I did was order the $8 metric bushing set from Progressive  to mount them.
If they will physically mount up on the frame, which they do, and they are the length you want, and are appropriate for your weight (I am a bit heavy & have had no problems at all) then you are good to go.
It does not need to be an engineering issue for a set of shocks.  Some things need to be exact, but this is not one of them.  The Progressive shocks are good and there are plenty of settings for adjustments.
I do not know of anyone  who has put on a pair of these shocks who has been unhappy with them.

Heresy I tell you!!

I know we can make most things work - what I'm saying - is if I'm buying it - new -  I want the correct fit out of the box - why they won't order or sell a metric bushing shock I do not know - if I'm buying it say ebay at 25 cents on the dollar (or less) than fitment considerations are aok and expected

Be at peace Reelthing...be calm...breathe slowly...deep breathes...in...out....in....out....................now that is a little better.

I understand your desire to have a product that comes off the shelf and is dedicated to fit the Savage without mod's needed...a direct bolt on.  They do not list a set for the Savage on the chart but they do have sets listed for the 800 and 1400 bikes and one of those would likely be perfect.

I am just a little easier going in some respects...nothing against you, I was just describing my take on things.
What say we go visit Sluggo's table and have a tall one?

Sounds got to me - you know I've had a couple of conversations with progressive about that very thing - as the 4232 and 4233 are perfect fit's - - that 42xx means it has metric bushings - to match the factory spring the 4233 does that - for a little more comfort the 4232 does that - and I'll buy see you there

I used the fitment guide for the Intruder 800 and got the 4214C+.  They fit beautifully but do raise the bike significantly over the 10.5" stock.   Below is the list of the 412's available for the VS800 and I'm sure they'll all fit the Savage, though your choice of the 11" is probably an excellent one.  I like my 12.5" versions a lot but would probably have chosen the 11" or 11.5" if I were to do it over.

412 Series

Standard 11"                       412-4233C
Standard 11.5"          412-4201C
Standard 12"                       412-4228C
Standard 12.5"          412-4207C+
Heavy Duty 11.5"       412-4236C
Heavy Duty 12"          412-4238C
Heavy Duty 12.5"       412-4214C+

Excellent info, fellas!  Grin

I was wondering what progressive you would recommend for a 150 pound rider with a 400-cc Savage.

I do mostly solo rides with the occasional skid with wife to save car gas.

Thanks,

RW
