570 miles in one day
04/28/06 at 10:05:07

So May 19th I'm riding my 2000 Savage all the way across Texas into NM...just wondering if I'm crazy taking this little bike all the way out there.

I've already ridden up into Oklahoma, but I'm just slightly concerned about over-kill on this bike.

yeah, i'm gonna change the oil a few days before i go, mostly because it's time anyway.

funny you should mention the gas. i'm riding with a HD Road King, so it'll be fun for him to have to pull over more often than usual. Smiley

hopefully i'll be putting on some isogrips before i go. crossing my fingers at least.

Okay, here's two otehr long trip savage tips.

1)  don't be afraid to sit on goofy parts of the bike, like the hump, or the passneger pillion w/ your feet ont he pass pegs (If you have a sissy bar)

2)  If you really feel the engine resonating, i.e. big vibrations), speed up or slow down a little.  your hands and feet will thabnk you later.

In general, drink water or gatorade, not soda or red bull.  If you get tired, STOP and take a break!

That's the one thing I like about the Savage fuel range.  It reminds me to stop and get off every 100 miles.

sounds like fun to me, wind burn, sun burn, dehydration, prepare and take care of all three. it should be 100* or so, yes? try not to let that big ol' harley run you 85mph all day, i dont think the suzuki would appreciate that. its about to be over 100* for the next 100+ days in so.az. enjoy your moderate summers  8)

Your right about the sunscreen, yet wrong about the LS hanging at 85 all day.

be sure you take your glued up "CD" s to put under the kickstand. The highways will be running tar before long and it really sucks to see your bike in a slow slide just out of your reach. Have fun, wish we were all going with you.

Speak for you own Savage...mine will purr at 85 as long as it has gas in it.  In 5th gear at 85 it is approaching the power peak and pulls strongly past 95, hits 100 and then rolls just past that a bit +/- depending on how it is feeling that day.
