EDIT: Decomp Controller attachment?
01/14/06 at 18:38:24
I finally got a chance to work on the carburetor today. Installed a 152.5 main jet and replaced the white spacer with a half thickness washer. And I removed the snorkel for good measure.
When I was putting it all back together, I ended up with an electrical component which I could not figure out where it goes. The wires goin to the component branches off the wiring harness just about where the seat meets the tank.
By tracing the wires, it appears to be the decompression controller.
Does anyone know where this attaches to the frame?
Steve

Naw the flasher relay is at the front of the bike on the right hand (starboard) side just under the tank on the frame in a square rubber loop
I need to look up what you have - maybe timer for the decomp - any way it just slides on to the frame right "there" and run the two carb vent hoses under it into the same area
yes that is the "Decompression Solenoid Control Unit"- timer box - it should have rubber slot on the bottom that fits on a tab at the V just forward of the carb best i recall

Thanks, I confirmed it is the decomp controller with the wiring diagram and the wire colors.
I'll look for that mounting tab.

Reelthing,
I found the mounting location. Just forward of the carburetor under the tank as you said.
Of course I had to remove the tank again. And since I didn't believe the box would fit facing up, I removed the carb. That meant I had to remove the battery box.
Well I guess it's good practice.
The good news is I did the spark plug door mod and the seat mod while I had it off.
Hopefully, I'll get a chance to take a ride tomorrow to test it all out.
Thanks for the help.

sounds good - I bet for the first 2 months I had the '95 I pulled the tank and seat at least twice a week for one reason or another - the seat mod on these older savages make it ride very well - I don't notice quit as much seat improvement on the '02 with the #7 rubber plugs

I had to take the tank off again today to plug the indicator light connector in that I forgot yesterday.
Only took about 5 minutes this time. Guess I'm getting good at it. And yesterday before I put it back on I coated the rubber mounts with a little silicone grease. It came off much easier because of that, I think.
