Engine size and final drives. The 650 uses a drive belt and the 400 uses chain. I don't think the 400 was ever marketed in the U.S. either. I believe Red_Wine's ride is the LS400. He may know more off-hand.

what was marketed from 80 till the savage was the
gn400 basicly the same platform and engine, i put 98,000 miles on mine before i blew it up. last year.

it's what led me to the savage.

Beside the chain drive on the 400 they are the same as far as I know.
