Rear Disk?

Anyone fit a rear disk to the Savage, instead of that lousy drum? Considering it...

Only limited knowledge on the savage here...  But I don't know if that would even be possible...

I would love to dump the drum. To get rid of the horrible rear wheel squeak I have found several ways to shut it up for a while I am just sick of the fix for a while mentality. it goes like this you are approaching the stop light ready to cruise up looking cool as heII then SSSSSSCCCRRRRREEEeeeEECCCCHHHHHH!!!!!  Angry Angry Angry Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrasseddarn THAT SUCKS, not to mention much better braking. Mine is adjusted where it should be and the pads look almost new and it still sucks. I know most braking is done by the front wheel. If your smart you use both almost all the time! Just to be ready.  8)

This is something i can relate to, I have an EBC disc and pads with stainless hose, the disc is 230mm x 6.5mm and locks the back up no problem even with sticky tires.

I'm no wrench, but I'll bet with the proper equipment (i.e. imagination, skills, perseverence, tools) that a rear disc brake could be modified for a Savage ... hey the Sportster has that set up ... maybe an LS could be modded to accept a Sporty rear wheel/brake?

Mine must be defective; it doesn't squeak or squeal.  Hmmm, better look into that...

It is that belt drive that sort of dictates what can be done to the rear wheel.  You have to change the hub to change the brake....need to go out and buy a machine shop.

I don't have a lot of experience but I believe the sportster swap could be done.  It would not doubt take a bit of fabrication and such but I think it is doable.
The overall dimensions of the two bikes are not that much different.

You could fit a Sportster wheel, rotor, pulley in the Savage swing arm. That's the easy part... just install "backwards".

Unless you are a stellar welder, it'll be rough to hang the caliper. Master cylinder mount? Juice brake pedal? Plumbing? Caliper mount?

Which caliper? 1, 2, 4, or 6 piston? Stock or aftermarket? Upgrade the front to match?

Sounds too much like work...

I think with all the HD parts already on my Savage, I'd have been better off starting with a Sportster and adding Suzuki parts...
