Ribbed Rubbers for my Chubby!

Roll Eyes

Got a pair of these:

To put on these:

While I'm sitting one this:

It's coming along nicely.  I mounted the Highway Hawk Chubby T-Bars today and just ordered some truly classic white rubber grips.  8)

I also ordered a kit that remounts stock Suzuki turnsignals to the license plate bracket.  It's on backorder, and so I've been thinking that might not be too hard to make with hardware store parts, a drill and a hacksaw.

Grin I also figured out a quick fix for the holes in the side of the fender after I removed the side chrome...  Plastic hole plugs. http://www.surplussales.com/Rubber-Plastic/Plastic-1.html

It's still way too cold for a brass monkey like me to ride, but it's finally getting warm enough to go out there to the shed and strip threads.

Dangman...   I always post pics.

Perry... Thanks.  If interested, here's where I got my grips.  They've also got them in several other colors. http://www.flyritechoppers.com/whitneye/flyritechopperscom.nsf/FRCMerch.html

Also when I ordered the bars I didn't realize they were chubbies.  They look beechin'.

Toadie... Sorry to disappoint  Grin  but I can't resist a double intendre.   The seat came from GTS by way of eBay. The story of the seat is buried deep inside this thread http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=RubberSideDown;action=display;n...

Greg...  I'm itching to go back out there this afternoon again.

Everybody, FWIW: I saw these on eBay.  They are from an Intruder, but I'd suspect they fit the Savage.  The grips look exactly the same but the butt ends rock.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4527729507...
If no one here bids I may snipe them just for future use.

Here's a little bit on my "Sookie" update.

Overview-in-progress with seat and tall TBars
less pillion handle and side chrome:

Detail on the chubby TBars with so-so weld job, they
are 1¼" in dia. but for the grip and control areas:

Detail on plastic hole plug protoypes.
Black enamel ones are on the way:

Early prototype on device to move OEM turnsignals
to license plate mount. I decided the hanging brackets
will not be sturdy enough so I bought some cast ones,
not shown. All parts from Lowes:

Slowly slowly moving forward to riding weather...

Are all your cables long enough for the new bars?

It appears to be so, but  I'll have to reroute a little.  I don't think the stretch will be much worse that it was with the OEM buckhorns.

Last year I tightened the banjo on the brake line at the bar a little too tight and can't get it loose.  I've tried several wrenches but they all seem like they are about to round the corners, even the six sided sockets.  WD-40 is out there working on it for a few days.

I need to route the brake line behind the right fork.  If needed I can remove the headlight, but I'd still like to loosen that brake line to realign the angle a little.

Hey gitarzan
You could take the opportunity to fit a stainless brake line of exactly the right length and improve the brakes at the same time.

And you could fit the brake reservoir specially made for the flat handle bar.
Believe there's one in auction from Anderson Vintage Parts on E-bay.
Anyway the suggestion of kls650 to have the stainless bbrakeline made to measure is the best option I've seen.

Try giving the bolt on the banjo a good solid smack or two with a hammer and a piece of brass or aluminum.  That might shock it loose.

Update to my personal progress thread...  Wink

Here's my config for 2005, so far:

White Grips.
GTS Seat.
Tall Pull-Back 1¼" Thick T-Bars.

To do list:
Clear TS Lenses (not yet installed).
Metzeler ME880s (not yet installed).
Rear TS to be mounted on Lisc Plate.
Clean up handlebar wiring.
Figure out clean way to mount my tach.

Close up of seat and grips:

I took a couple other pix of bike with windshield and bags, done just to speculate on looks.  The bags are cheapies that came with the bike.  Curiously, the yellow flames match the seat pattern! I may get some vinyl paint and dab it over the yellow so it looks a little less foolish.  The WS also came with the bike and I removed it after one test  ride. I might reinstall it until it's warm outside enough to ride in a t shirt.

Here's the other pix if you want to see them:
