I think that it really depends on the lean angle during the situation. A straight line rear skid is a piece of cake, but it's the lean that causes a control problem.
Unfortunately, as Susan said, it happens so fast that it's a matter of react rather than think...."Oh crap, my rear tire is skidding, what did the instructor say to do?".... And in the time you can read that, the whole event is over.
Really, going slower is the only technique. "Slow, Look, Lean, Roll" is the best thing to remember, and quite often those 4 little words go through my head when I approach a curve.....but maybe, I'm just an older biker, and I know that I won't heal as fast anymore
