That will end up being my first project in shop 2.0. It needs the right crank seal replaced, which requires splitting the engine cases. A sprinkler or fire supresion system is definitely on the table for shop 2.0.

So finally I am allowed to go into the building. They cleared out a large portion of the equipment and vehicles, so this is the closest look I have gotten at my street tracker. It's pretty ugly to look at.

Shop 2.0 will have smoke detectors that link to my phone. As far as fire supression systems go, they are ridiculously expensive in my area due to freezing temperatures. It has to be antifreeze, not water. It has to be stored in a pressurize tank, and maintained. There are systems that use foam or dry chemical, but again, too expensive for my budget. But thanks for the tips, zevenenergie.

What an absolute shame - I don't know if I would be emotionally strong enough to go through something like that. In the last 6 months we have replaced a water heater, oven/range, refrigerator, and our RV roof leaked and rotted out the bunk area and I am in the middle of a 3 week rebuild of the bunk area (takes a lot of time to do it with 1 person, and scraping off old sealant is incredibly time consuming). Seeing your garage and contents in a pile of ashes puts it all in perspective about how much worse things can be. I am truly sorry this happened to you.

Maybe a "Master Switch" that can turn off all the non-essential electrical components - and you can switch it off when you are not in the shop. You could leave on anything related to the alarm, smoke detectors or any heating/cooling related items you want to stay on.

I have a friend that has a timer on his compressor so that he doesn't forget to turn it off. When the timer runs out it shuts off the electric to the compressor motor and also closes a valve for the air supply.

I talked to a guy that put all of his battery chargers on the light circuit, so when he turns off the lights, all the chargers get turned off at the same time. I know they may never find the exact cause, but I hope they do. I really want to know how it started. They took 11 pieces of evidence for forensic investigation, including the remains of the Ryobi battery, the remains of the Ryobi charger, and four wall outlets that were closest to that bench and charger. The lead fire cause analysis investigator has scheduled a call with me some time today. He previously told me the forensic examination could take as much as two months to complete. But they are finished with the building, which means I should get the official notification from the insurance releasing the building back to me. Then comes the really hard part - cleaning up and inventorying all my equipment, tools, and property for the insurance claim.

Yeah , I’m not sure how I would handle that. Emotionally just another gut punch , but financial loss and loss of my bikes , tools , my shop. I know I would come back and build more just spite of the loss. I would have to buy a cookie cutter bike , loose my identity, my coolness and my pride all in one clean swoop !!!
He will recover , didn’t say it would be painless.
